Key Personnel

Tim Colley AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, SCUP has more than 20 years of experience working with individuals, small and large businesses, local and state governments, and universities on projects of all types, scales, and complexity. He served on the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Blue Ridge board of directors in various capacities from 2001-2013. Additionally, he served on the AIA Virginia board of directors and AIA Virginia board of trustees almost continuously from 2011-2017. Locally, Tim has served on boards for Sustainable Blacksburg and the YMCA at Virginia Tech, and he currently serves on the Town of Blacksburg Zoning Ordinance Review Committee and the Planning Commission. Tim also received a gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia oversight Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Licensed Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers, and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA) in 2020. He is registered to practice architecture in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Tim graduated from Virginia Tech with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Architecture with a concentration in Sustainable and Energy Efficient Design.  

Nicholas Duncan, AIA, Architect / Project Manager has nearly 20 years of experience ranging from residential, hospitality and gaming, k-12 education, higher education, and more. Having extensive experience as a project manager on high profile higher education and k-12 projects in the state of Virginia, he contributes to projects at all levels, from preliminary concepts to working drawings and from development of specifications through construction administration. He is registered to practice architecture in Virginia. Nick received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech.

Hector Mendoza, AIA, Architect / Project Manager has over 8 years of experience working in design and architecture integrating site analysis, programmatic requirements, and aesthetic sensibility to generate design alternatives for projects of various types and scales. Exploring ideas and design alternatives through drawings, physical, and computer-generated models, he produces drawing sets of presentation materials for all phases of design, from concept through completion. He is registered to practice architecture in North Carolina and Virginia. Hector received three master’s degrees from Virginia Tech: Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, and Science Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, Hector also received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Instituto Politecnico de las F.A.N.

Lynn Blevins, Office Manager serves as the first point of contact and welcomes guests to Colley Architects. She also develops, maintains, and manages firm project files including preparing reports and proposals. Lynn retired from Virginia Tech after serving 35 years; the last 20 years as director of alumni relations for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg. In that role, she was responsible for coordinating and planning class reunions, multiple student and alumni events, and the college’s continuing education program. Lynn also traveled the country meeting with over 400 alumni in their practices to encourage connectivity and philanthropic support to the college. Lynn received both her bachelor’s degree in Business Education and her master’s degree in Student Personnel Services from Virginia Tech.

Colley Architects also employs design interns throughout the year to assist with production while providing valuable professional experience to students. This also allows our firm to maintain a direct connection to current architectural education practices.
